flower pot mosaic

Help!  I'm the craft coordinator for our church camp, and I'm planning to make the flower pot mosaic project found on the back of your "amazing mosaics gems" package.

Your instructions say to prepare surface w/varnish or paint.  We're going to use varnish - any special instructions on that?  How long should we wait before we can start gluing on the gems?

Next question:  what type of glue should we use to glue the gems onto the terra cotta pot?

Any other suggestions would be helpful!

Hi Beverly,

Thank you for your question. After consulting our product development department (who creates all of our products), here is what I found. First, the varnish is used after you are finished to seal the finished surface and protect it from weather, sunlight, etc. You should use a clear varnish. These products can be found in most hardware stores, usually in the paint section. There are many that are suitable for this application.

Second, you can use just about any kind of glue to stick the gems on your pots. You can try Milestones Mosaic Glue, which is designed for this purpose, or any sort of craft glue. In the end, it is the grout that ultimately holds the gems in place, so the glue needs to be at least strong enough to hold the gems while the grout is applied. For your purposes, I would recommend something that dries fairly quickly.
