I opened the "my handprint product" to use with my three year old. It had a very strong odor and had black and white mold around the edges. The package had never been opened before (not exposed to air). I am 6 mos pregnant and am very concerned at whether or not this mold that I have been exposed to is toxic. Have been searching on other sites and see references to stachybotris on paper clay, however the package does not indicate what the handprint clay is made of.

Please advise if I have reason to be concerned. The strong odor was very disconcerting.
Thank you,
Debra Selby

The mold on the product is completely non-toxic. Sometimes there can be very small punctures in the packaging that might allow mold spores to creep in, but it is not toxic mold. It is similar to the mold that grows on cheese. It is stinky and gross, but non-toxic.

Hi Folks:

If this EVER happens to anyone (mold on your clay) please email us at marketing@milestonesproducts.com and we will promptly send you replacement clay.  This is not a common occurence, but it can happen.  So, just let us know and we'll make your kit whole again.\

Thank you,

Arthur

Perhaps a more concrete example is required?
