The paper clay included in the kit is a handmade product. The consistency of the clay will vary somewhat because of this. Here's how to get the most out of your project:
*Add a thin film of oil to the plastic mold to help the clay release after drying. Go ahead and rub a small amount of the oil on your palms too--it will help the clay release from your hands.
*It is normal for some powdery residue to stick to your hands; it is a natural clay powder that washes off easily with a washcloth and water. However, when the clay has the correct moisture, you should be able to roll it into a smooth ball.
*IF THE CLAY SEEMS TOO STICKY, spread it out on a peice of plastic and leave it uncovered for about 3 minutes to let some of the moisture evaporate. Flip the clay over and let the other side dry for a bit, then fold the clay over and over to redistribute the moisture.
*IF THE CLAY SEEMS TOO HARD, sprinkle a few drops of water on it and fold the clay over several times, kneading in the water until the clay is soft enough to make a handprint or footprint.
